Reporting to the Lead Technical Specialist, Strategic Planning, the Rig/Field Geologist will work throughout the operation to coordinate the safe preparation, moving, and shutdown of diamond drilling operations.
Responsibilities include coordinating geology field operations with various departments, managing drill contractors, completing daily safety inspections, budget tracking, tracking and reporting on the progress of each hole and making hole shutdown decisions in consultation with team members.
In addition to the above responsibilities, the successful candidate must have strong problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills and be a motivated self-starter, who can remain organized and prioritize contending demands in a fast-paced team environment. The successful candidate will also support various team members by assisting in the core shack, updating Leapfrog models and tracking production/reconciliation in Vulcan.
The typical work shift is 7 days on, 7 days off, 12-hour shift allowing for a great work life balance. This position is part of an 18-month contract (benefits included) and may be extended.
Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Ensure field operations are carried out safely and in a well-organized manner
- Plan and coordinating drilling activities and hole sequencing around production schedules.
- Understand the objectives of each drill hole and communicate project progress
- Assist in the Core Shack as required
- Assist in updating geological models using Leapfrog
- Assist in reconciliation using Vulcan
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Geology or related discipline.
- Membership or eligibility for registration with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC is required
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in porphyry exploration or mines; experience in operations is considered a strong asset
- Experience managing diamond drills and contractors
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong computer skills, experience with Machine Learning is considered a strong asset
- Experience in Leapfrog and Vulcan is considered a strong asset

Salary Range: $103,000 - $127,000
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
