Reporting to the Manger, Community and Public Relations, the Community Relations Assistant (Assistant) is responsible for supporting and coordinating activities relating to engagement in community, regional, and state affairs on behalf of the Red Dog Operations (RDO) and the advanced exploration project, Aktigiruq and Anarraaq Exploration Program (AAEP).
Position will be based in Teck Alaska’s Anchorage Office; work schedule will be Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Responsibilities:
• Promote and ensure a safe work environment and a safety conscious workforce by supporting and following safety initiatives, procedures and activities
• Provide support for the community and public relations, communications, and government relations team
• Support and coordinate, including travel and logistics, regional community engagement activities to enhance regional relationships and awareness of Red Dog’s operation
• Expected to support and provide accurate and timely reports on activities, issues and outcomes to company decision makers
• Support implementation of the Community Relations strategy consistent with company standards and international commitments for the various phases of the Project (i.e. permitting)
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related discipline preferred
• Three (3) years’ experience in community or public relations preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills and experience of working co-operatively with a broad range of community stakeholders
• Understanding of and experience in the extractives industry and projects, especially mining.
• Demonstrated planning, organizing and event coordination experience
• Rural Alaska logistics planning experience a plus
• Computer skills, with intermediate knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint, applications
• High level of integrity, respect and solutions-focused with a commitment to respectful and inclusive community engagement
• Understanding of the NANA region and/or experience living or working in the region an asset
• Strong organizational skills, work ethic, self-motivated, dependable, and punctual/
• Effective oral and written communication skills
