About the Role:

Based in the Perth Office, this role administers all aspects of geospatial data for the Australian exploration team including governance, data management, data integration and data analysis.  The role will lead the development of new workflows which will drive innovation in data capture and synthesis and includes collaboration with other subject matter experts to drive the development and implementation of data science applications in geoscience and other disciplines related to exploration activities. The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Maintain and upgrade geospatial data and databases to provide the highest quality data and standards for geoscientists. 
  • Manage the data “chain of custody” from data-capture through data-serving. Ensure that high-quality critical data products are available for end user consumption. 
  • Liaise with geoscience staff to improve field data collection & transfer by providing them with customised tools and scripts.
  • Unlock the full potential of exploration data by helping conceptualise, develop and implement new data-related workflows
  • Conduct advanced processing, manipulation and analysis of both spatial and sub-surface data for the purpose of data intensive analysis & appraisal.
  • Employ advanced statistical methods and artificial intelligence (machine learning, deep learning) to advance geological understanding.  
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and best practices in data management and data science to enhance the Exploration business.  
  • Liaise with geospatial professionals within Teck to develop group-wide consistency in data-related systems and architecture where possible. 

About You:

  • A graduate qualification in spatial sciences, computer sciences, geological sciences or information science.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience working in your field of qualification.
  • Knowledge and experience in the design, development, maintenance, and administration of both spatial and other file-related databases. 
  • General knowledge of and experience with relational databases and data modeling. Experience with SQL databases is required. 
  • Proficient use of ESRI’s ArcGIS Enterprise suite of applications including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, AGOL (ArcGis Online), Portal and ArcSDE databases.
  • Familiarity of spatial data ELT (export, transform, load) using FME would be an asset.  
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (i.e. Python) would be an asset.
  • Experience with SharePoint environments and the Microsoft 365 for Business suite of applications would be an asset. Administration and management of document libraries and workflows is required. 
  • Familiarity with other mineral exploration software (acQuire, ioGAS, Geosoft Target, Leapfrog, etc.) would be an asset.
  • Experience in Machine Learning, Deep Learning Frameworks and knowledge of at least one of the fields of Big Data, Data Mining, Predictive/Prescriptive Analytics, Optimization, Exploratory Analysis, Computer Vision & Visualization considered an asset. 
  • General knowledge of geological processes and terms would be an asset.
