Senior Mine Engineer

Reporting to the Technical Director, Mining, the Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for engineering design and mine planning. At times, the incumbent may be required to take on an operational role as a project transitions to construction and development.

Responsibilities:

  • Creation, development and assessment of mine plans for the safe and efficient extraction of ore that will include methods, designs, scheduling, materials handling, costing, and all other activities associated with mining systems
  • Evaluate and detail deposits for reserve and resource estimates
  • Act as the mining lead on larger studies and projects
  • Develop and / or bring forward industry best practices and new technologies to share in a community of practice
  • Prepare long and medium range schedules that support strategic mine plans
  • Interact with other Teck departments and technical disciplines in the preparation of engineering studies
  • Maintain an understanding of applicable regulatory requirements including NI 43-101 and the CIM Standards and Best Practice Guidelines
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental practices and procedures

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or post-graduate qualification in Mine Engineering
  • Minimum of nine years’ experience in mine engineering with a specific focus on developing mine plans
  • Registered, or have the ability to register, as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia
  • Experience in developing optimized mining schedules using tools such as Comet, Minemax, or similar
  • A solid understanding of mining costs, coupled with operational experience, would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of and experience with underground mine planning would be considered an asset
  • Strong technical writing skills and experience in preparing technical reports
  • Subject matter expertise in the use, and application of mine planning software packages such as Maptek’s Vulcan suite, Whittle and/or Hexagon MineSight
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, as well as exceptional organizational skills
  • Fluent in English, with Spanish language skills considered an asset
