Safety and Health Coordinator - RACE21

Being part of the RACE21™ team, you’ll be leading the charge of a company-wide renewal of technology and infrastructure – a high-tech transformation of mining into the next generation!

The Safety and Health Coordinator - RACE21™ will be developing, establishing, promoting and assisting in the implementation of effective safety programs and promoting the maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Establish and promote a Safe and Healthy working environment; conform to TECK Corporate Safety and Health Programs.
  • Regularly inspect work areas, reporting on practices and conditions found and following up on issues identified including advising and supporting safe working practices.
  • Develop internal standards, procedures and control systems which can ensure compliance with standards and policies set by the regulatory agencies with jurisdiction.
  • Recommend and implement effective health and safety programs and activities for employees and participate in the presentation of these programs when needed; coordinate, deliver and educate all levels of personnel through periodic training programs.
  • Ensure that all employees and contractors are advised of the safety policies and regulations and supervise their compliance with these regulations.
  • Prepare routine written reports as advised and ad hoc special reports on safety performance problems as circumstances dictate.
  • Set Safety and Health objectives and ensure the completion of the objectives.
  • Define and recommend effective procedures for investigating incidents reports and accidents in a timely manner; supervise inspection and investigation practices to assess compliance with regulations and Teck policies; assist supervisors in the investigation of injury reports including follow up on the results of the investigation.
  • Responsible for adherence to established project budgets and timelines.
  • Take on new projects as the need arises

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an HR Health & Safety role is required.
  • Must possess knowledge and understanding of Federal and Local laws and regulations regarding occupational safety and health.
  • Must have an ability to recommend or initiate corrective preventative measures.
  • Must be capable of providing written reports to the project management team.
  • Strong skills and knowledge of overall project implementation management processes is an asset.
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good critical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Open to learning new ideas and developing new competencies
