Project Planning Specialist (12 month temp)

Reporting to the Program Manager and under the guidance and supervision of the Principal, Planning and Scheduling Specialist, the Project Planning Specialist will implement project planning and scheduling methods, procedures, and systems on projects.

Project Planning includes: schedule planning and development, reviews, resource allocation, progress and performance measurement, schedule analysis, forecasting and status reporting.  This is a hands on role requiring development of schedules in Primavera and providing schedule expertise and guidance to the Project team.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead the integration of scheduling and planning activities with regulatory bodies, external consultants and Teck internal groups
  • Develop and maintain a program master schedule
  • Develop and maintain a Teck schedule of work for each project and other required approvals in the program
  • Perform quality reviews on third party schedules. Recommend corrective actions and supervise their implementation.  Integrate third party schedules into overall program master schedule. 
  • Provide guidance and training on project planning and scheduling methods, procedures and systems as required
  • Assist the Principal, Planning and Scheduling Specialist in transferring program lessons learned and gathering historical data. 
  • Consistently demonstrate Teck’s environmental protection as a core value

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in project planning and scheduling roles with a minimum 12 years of experience on major resource projects is required
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering is preferred 
  • Excellent knowledge of project management theory, especially in time and cost management, is required. Strong understanding in the areas of project planning, activity duration estimating, CPM schedule preparation, schedule analysis and schedule system application are essential.  Experience in progress measurement and earned value measurement systems is preferred
  • Hands on experience in developing and progressing resource loaded schedules in Primavera is required.
  • Major Projects experience in both Contractor and Owner organizations is preferred 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point and Project scheduling software.  Strong skills in Primavera are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills are required
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate a high level of initiative is required
  • Construction experience on a resource project is preferred
  • Experience working with permitting regulatory bodies and knowledge of environmental studies is preferred
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills as well as able to prioritize and meet deadlines
