Project Geochemist

Reporting to the Senior Geochemist and based in Vancouver, BC, the Project Geochemist is responsible for providing geochemical input to exploration, advanced project and operations within the Americas. In this role, the geochemist will contribute to Teck’s geochemical practices and will support field data acquisition, QA/QC, processing and interpretation of geochemical data, ensuring the best possible quality of analyses are obtained and that results are appropriately integrated into project datasets and decision making.



  • Work with project teams to advise and provide technical support and mentoring on best practice geochemical data acquisition (field program design and execution), validation, analysis and modeling for Exploration, Project Development, Business Unit technical groups, and Operations, including interaction with key project stakeholders;
  • Work in close collaboration with Teck’s applied mineralogists and metallurgists to optimize and develop geochemical proxies to mineralogical and metallurgical parameters;
  • Conduct geochemical analysis including application of advanced statistical techniques and integration with multidimensional geoscientific data to inform resource/reserve, geometallurgical, waste rock characterization models and material stewardship initiatives;
  • Provide support of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) programs in line with Teck’s Leading Practice guidelines and ensure validity of geochemical databases;
  • Provide input into geochemical database management and QAQC reporting solutions to ensure data compliance and help certify data handover to the Reserve Evaluation Group;
  • Actively identify and contribute to Innovation initiatives in geochemistry and data integration; and
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental guidelines and procedures.


Qualifications & Experience


  • B.Sc. in Geology, Geochemistry or a related discipline, with a preference for a post graduate degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience;
  • Practical field experience in the design and implementation of geochemical programs;
  • Exposure to Greenfields and Brownfields Exploration, Advanced Projects, Resource Estimation, or Mining Operations is an asset;
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques and experience dealing with internal and/or external laboratories to ensure excellence in execution;
  • Experience with field-portable geochemical and hyperspectral equipment is advantageous in addition to supporting the research and application of emerging field-portable analytical technologies;
  • Experience in lithogeochemical characterization of multi-disciplinary data sets from diverse geological and deposit settings using a mathematical approach to solving complex geochemical problems within a geological context;
  • Application of QA/QC, data validation, and familiarity with NI 43-101 compliance requirements; 
  • Strong statistical and data interpretation, as well as data management skills; and
  • Proficiency in use of statistical software packages such as IoGas, R, Orange and an interest/expertise in data science and machine learning is an asset.
