Reporting to the Manager – Finance and Accounting, RACE21TM, the Project Accountant, RACE21TM will play an integral role in setting up and maintaining the financial systems reporting for Teck’s business transformation program – RACE21TM. The transformation touches on important topics such as digitization, automation and advanced analytics and provides an opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams in Teck. The Project Accountant will be responsible for maintenance of documents, processing invoices and assisting month end and quarter end close. The Project Accountant will interface with procurement group and Corporate Financial group to ensure document control and invoice processing in compliance with corporate policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Receiving, processing, and verifying invoices
  • Review all invoices and purchasing card reconciliation for PST self-assessment completeness
  • Maintaining RACE21TM employees and contractors list and work with HR group to ensure the accuracy of the headcount information
  • Preparing project setup form, requesting set up of Project ID in the procurement system and update project lists periodically
  • Collecting and organizing AR, contract and accounting documents to ensure compliance with existing document control framework
  • Resolving corporate credit card and out of pocket expense issues
  • Working with project owners and collect accruals for monthly reporting 
  • Preparing McKinsey consulting accruals
  • Working with Senior Accounting Analyst to ensure projects map to appropriate cost centres
  • Assisting month end and quarter end closing
  • Assisting internal and external audit
  • Work with the accounting department to ensure that all processes and frameworks are aligned with existing accounting policies, practices and reporting and that internal controls are applied appropriately
  • Create and maintain cross-departmental relationships
  • Assume day-to-day responsibility for numerous, and often changing, projects and tasks
  • Pull PO reports from TDS Project Procurement Dashboard and maintain contract list
  • Guiding procurement process and resolving procurement related issues
  • Administer DoA set up and maintain files
  • Assist in process and control framework documentation for RACE21
  • Assist in memo preparation
  • Other projects as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or other relevant discipline
  • CPA designation is an asset
  • Familiarity with financial accounting system, including Microsoft AX and Dynamics
  • Strong analytical capabilities and problem-solving ability
  • Proven excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask effectively
  • Ability to deal effectively with ambiguity
  • Proven ability to keep top-level confidence
  • Impeccable managerial and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments
  • Effective, versatile, and action-oriented
