Network Architect

Location: 

Vancouver, BC, CA

Reporting to the Manager, Network Services, the Network Architect leads design and optimization of data, VoIP and video networks. This work includes detailed design and configuration of Cisco, Microsoft and other vendor hardware and software to ensures high availability, sufficient capacity, and high performance. The Specialist leads tier 3 support (complex incident response or critical system/site outage), project planning/delivery and build and sustainment of a trusted and stable network and voice infrastructure.

 

We are seeking senior individuals who have crafted/architected, built, configured and maintained the following systems and technologies:

• Cisco Nexus and Catalyst routers and switches

• Spine-Leaf data centre network architecture

• BGP, OSPF routing protocols

• SD-WAN

• Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), VoIP, video

• Network security (NAC, Palo Alto firewalls, DMZ, Cisco ACS)

 

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide reactive tier 3 support for very sophisticated or high impact data, voice and video incidents
  • Fulfill complex data, voice or video requests within the promised timeframes
  • Mentor network analysts on advanced issue resolution or request fulfillment
  • Research, recommend and order new circuits or equipment from our preferred vendors 
  • Design and implement production network, voice and video failover strategies
  • Build and review RFI and RFP for new communication technologies
  • Review, recommend and implement modifications to the de-militarized zone (DMZ) network
  • Stress test new technology in a lab setting, document configuration, coordinate the release to production, and ensure supportable outcomes
  • Clearly communicate and defend required changes to the Change Advisory Board (CAB) and IS teams
  • Provide leadership and mentorship in the intricate configuration of network technologies, including:
  • Cisco routers, switches and SD-WAN (including QoS, dynamic routing, etc.)
  • Next generation firewall configuration, access control lists and DMZ improvements
  • Next generation load balancing configuration (HSRP, F5, etc)
  • Cisco Nexus and core switching; spine-leaf, ACI, DCNM support data center-class devices and components 
  • IP addressing and virtual network segregation
  • Network management tools (i.e. Cisco DNA, Prime, SolarWinds, etc)
  • Wireless network technologies (WAP, WLC, WCS) and integration with 3rd party PKI
  • Microwave radio technologies (back haul, 4G/5G, etc)
  • WAN Optimization devices (SD-WAN, Riverbed, Silver Peak etc.)
  • Network access, authorization and accounting (Cisco ISE, ForeScout, ClearPass)
  • Packet broker/SPAN  tools (Gigamon, etc)  
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the advanced configuration of VoIP systems, including:
  • Microsoft Teams integration 
  • Polycom, Cisco and Microsoft video end points 
  • Cisco contact center (UCCX) 
  • Call accounting applications and management 
  • Provide strategic direction 
  • Provide 3 and 5 year strategies and roadmaps 
  • Set strategic direction based upon business requirements and architectural guidance 
  • Define a well-informed Cloud strategy and manage the adaption process.  
  • Regularly evaluate Cloud applications, hardware, and software.  
  • Collaborate with IT Server and Security teams to monitor the company's cloud design and privacy.  
  • Lead infrastructure movement techniques including bulk application transfers into the cloud.  
  • Responsible for design and implementation of Cloud access strategy 
  • Provide financial guidance to management pertaining to Network Services 
  • Provide 24x7 support on an ad-hoc / as-needed basis 

 

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Computing Sciences or Technology
  • Minimum of CCNP is required, CCIE is recommended
  • Cisco Call Manager / CUCM certifications
  • VMware Certifications (VCP) is preferred
  • Health, Safety and Reclamation Code (HSRC) certified (recommended)
  • 10 years supporting Cisco network infrastructure: Nexus, Catalyst switches and routers; voice gateways (including QoS, dynamic routing, etc)
  • 3+ years of Cisco-based network design and architecture
  • 5+ years of VoIP and video teleconferencing using CallManager, MS Teams
  • 3+ years of Azure infrastructure experience
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft products, including Exchange or MS Teams (voice/video calling)
  • Expert technical, analytic and troubleshooting abilities; able to handle high severity incidents under extreme time pressures 
  • Ability to communicate optimally with technical and business teams (senior executive/C-level)
  • Travel to and work in remote locations nationally or internationally (including the US) 
  • Spanish language skills considered an asset
