Successful candidates must be motivated self-starters, able to work under minimal supervision and be able to manage several projects simultaneously.  The positions may require working outdoors in all weather conditions and the ability to operate 4-wheel drive vehicles in mountainous terrain. Travel may be required for some positions. Depending on location, you may be required to have steel-toed boots (which must reach at least above the ankle) before commencing work. If you have prescription eye glasses or contacts, you may be required to have prescription safety glasses or may need to request safety glasses that fit over your eye glasses prior to your start date.

The positions also require strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.  A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is necessary, and a working knowledge of PowerPoint and Visio would be advantageous.

All students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.

Teck Resources Ltd co-op students obtain the knowledge and skills required to deal with challenges that may arise at a large-scale mining operation. Students will get exposure to cutting edge mining, mineral processing and information technology (Machine Learning, Automation, Real time ore sorting, etc.). They will apply data science techniques and perform analytics of real time data to find and predict safety and productivity opportunities; and learn about industrial cyber security at a mining industry leader in the field.


The successful candidate will be a team member within the Teck Digital Systems group. Team members are responsible for enhancing and providing technical support for the Information Systems for Teck Resources Ltd. large-scale mining operations. There are multiple positions within the team and specific responsibilities of a co-op in Digital Systems with Teck Resources may include but are not limited to:

  • Involvement in the health and safety programs of Teck Resources ensure that everyone  goes home safe and healthy every day
  • Work with help desk and network operations staff to determine and resolve problems received from clients
  • Maintain existing engineering and Real-Time Systems in live production environment
  • Plant control automation systems integration and support
  • Mining pit control systems
  • Wireless communications
  • Administer Windows and Unix based systems
  • Integrate and administer process data historian databases (InSQL, Exaquantum)
  • Network design and installation
  • Software development including bug fixes and defect investigation
  • Assist trainers in day to day training and troubleshooting of software issues
  • Plan, coordinate and communicate all system changes
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation
