Reporting to the Director, Value Delivery, the Manager, Value Delivery, Drill and Blast, RACE21™ is responsible for the development and execution of a drill and blast roadmap for Teck’s operations. Activities include evaluating opportunities for the application of advanced analytics to Teck’s production drilling fleet, developing products based on seen opportunities and deploying products in partnership with Teck sites to achieve clearly demonstrable and sustainable business value.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Define, execute, and prioritize a Teck wide roadmap of analytics product development for drill and blast that has strong user consensus, is reflected in site plans and continuous improvement trackers, has clear business cases/valuations, and has initiatives at different stages of maturity to ensure a balanced development pipeline
  • With the Manager of Product, lead at least one digital squad for end to end delivery, that will combine internal Teck resources, consultants, and contractors:
    • Product Owners who coordinate day to day agile digital product development
    • Software Developers, Data Scientists, and Data Engineers who build products for both desktop software and mobile applications
    • Deployment Specialists who ensure that products most optimally meet business needs, and work with site Continuous Improvement or other resources charged with change management of deploying products at site
    • Subject matter experts and site users who are the effective customers for the products and have a critical voice in guiding product development
    • Other specialized resources such as UX/UI developers, QA, and cloud platform architects
  • Integrate efforts with other relevant RACE21™ teams including the Renew, Strategy, and Change Management teams

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science, or equivalent experience is required; Masters of Arts or Science is a plus
  • Deep domain expertise in surface mining drill and blast process with some involvement in the development or deployment of advanced analytics in their specific focus area
  • Proven understanding of software development life cycle models, knowledge of Agile and traditional project management principles and practices, and the ability to blend them together in the right proportions to fit a project and business environment
  • Consistent track record in data science, data engineering, or software engineering in the resource industry
  • On site experience in a resource industry company leading Continuous Improvement teams
  • Background leading multiple external vendors simultaneously
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and rapidly evolving environments
  • Effective interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, team building, providing and receiving feedback
  • Experience interacting with individuals from both technology organizations and operational sites, at all levels of an organization
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to handle contending demands
