Internal Audit Assistant (Part-time)

Reporting to the Director, Internal Audit & Operational Review (“AOR”) this position holds responsibility for supporting the Internal Audit and SOX Certification functions. The work involves supporting both functions administratively at Teck’s Head Office in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

This position will also assist during the strategic planning for the department, including the development of the annual risk assessment and audit plan. This position also assists the Internal Audit Manager with various ad-hoc initiatives. All team members are expected to act as ambassadors for the department and in keeping with professional standards as directed by the Institute of Internal Auditors.

The Internal Audit Assistant performs a variety of administrative and functional duties for the AOR team, which requires knowledge of department policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Supports AOR administratively.
  • Serves as a liaison between AOR and the rest of the organization; schedule appointments, meetings, and conferences.
  • Prepares and develops working paper templates for use by auditors, primarily in Excel format.
  • Assists with preparation of quarterly reports to Audit Committee
  • With advanced knowledge of filing systems, creates, maintains and updates department files and records, mostly in a digital environment but sometimes in hard copy.
  • Maintains department SharePoint sites.
  • Coordinates with sites and corporate locations to ensure relevant information is updated in SOX SharePoint site.
  • Makes arrangements for employee domestic and international travel, including flight, hotel and car rental bookings; complete expense reports.
  • Prepares documents, develops and administers surveys, composes summary memos and takes and transcribes minutes of meetings as required.
  • Project coordination and special assignments as requested.
  • The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Qualifications:

  • High level of proficiency in Excel
  • High school graduation. College level courses or administrative/business school training is desirable
  • Minimum 4 years administrative experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Basic understanding of business practices, risks and business process improvement.
  • Good analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is desirable.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
