Exploration Accountant (Temporary)

Are you a CPA who would like a fantastic opportunity in the Corporate Controllers group for a large prestigious resource company?

The Exploration Accountant is responsible for accounting and consolidation for foreign and Canadian exploration entities and carrying out month-end closing processes in a timely manner.

You will be in charge of preparing journal entries, working papers and financial reporting and analysis.

  • working completely remotely two full weeks per year (combined or as separate weeks)


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Preparing, reviewing, and processing financial information to ensure it is recorded accurately and properly in the company’s accounting software systems.  This includes analyzing consolidated and non-consolidated transactions, preparing journal entries to the general ledger and consolidation system
  • Maintaining the accounting records and preparing financial reports and analyses for the company’s Canadian exploration activities and Canadian activities related to the foreign exploration programs
  • Consolidating foreign Exploration Subsidiaries for the company.  This includes submitting information to HFM, preparing consolidation journals for each subsidiary and reviewing the results for reasonableness
  • Preparing and analyzing exploration expenditures for the monthly management financial package
  • Analyzing and performing reconciliations of Exploration related accounts in the general ledger
  • Tracking exploration expenditures by region and mineral type
  • Ensuring all head office transactions are documented with supporting working papers.
  • Preparing annual financial statements for foreign and Canadian active and inactive exploration companies
  • Performing reconciliations between head office consolidated results and site financial information
  • Works with and provides ad hoc information to the tax, accounting and internal audit departments as required
  • Assisting with various ad-hoc projects as required



  • Preferably 3 – 5 years of accounting experience, with SOX and IFRS exposure
  • CPA candidate or recently qualified CPA
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail and superior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and deliver on tight deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience with top-tier ERP and consolidation systems, and other financial reporting software
