Contracts Administrator (12 Month Temporary)

Reporting to the Senior Contracts & Procurement Specialist, the Contracts Administrator will be responsible for supporting the development of project contracting strategies and oversight of contract services by EPCM service providers to advance Teck’s interests.



  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Use existing templates, guidelines, standards, and other associated documents from the Teck Project Procedure Manual (PPM), Project Development Group (PDG) documents, and other Teck sources as applicable and modified as necessary for the Project. 
  • Support the development and recommendation of contract strategies and contract plans to Project Manager, ensuring contract strategies consider appropriate legal, commercial, and technical approach to scope packaging, bidding, awarding, managing, and closing contracts.
  • Support or manage the request for proposal process including:
    • Planning, preparation, and management of the RFP documents and process
    • Analyzing and evaluating of commercial proposals
    • Undertaking commercial risk assessment on technical documentation forming part of the RFP and contract suite
    • Supporting or managing the technical evaluation process
    • Supporting the negotiation commercial and legal terms on behalf of Teck, including drafting recommended amendments to the legal conditions for approval by corporate counsel
    • Recommending award based on overall best value
    • Conforming, executing, and awarding resulting contracts
    • Ensuring all records are managed and retained
  • Administer agreements (post-award) including evaluating pre-mobilization deliverables, reconciling invoices, negotiating / resolving disputes, negotiating changes, implementing change management procedures, and closing contracts.
  • Implement effective change management to ensure contract modifications are properly documented and approved.
  • Ensure contracts are closed out appropriately and in accordance with applicable legislation.
  • Support the Project Contracts Lead in managing and instruct the EPCM in its execution of full contracting lifecycle on behalf of Teck.
  • Proactively resolve issues that arise between contractors and project teams in a professional manner.
  • Prepare ad hoc contract management reports as required.
  • Adhere to all corporate policies, code of ethics, and codes of conduct.
  • Perform job-related administrative duties as required



  • Post secondary education from a recognized institution is required.
  • 5 years of experience, site experience is an asset, in an EPC or EPCM company or owners project team and managing and executing contract lifecycle activities.
  • Understanding and experience with project lifecycles, project procedures, project roles and responsibilities.
  • Able to independently develop and recommend complex project contracting strategies.
  • Understanding and experience with various contract types, models, strategies.
  • Understanding of various legal and commercial terms and ability to interpret, defend, apply, and rely on those terms.
  • Good negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Understanding and experience in multiple phases of project execution.
  • Able to raise awareness of contract activities, which have an impact to a project.
  • Knowledge of and experience working in the industrial engineering, mining  and construction industry.
  • Good critical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
