Technician Trainee, Technical Support (Temporary 6 months)

Reporting to a Research Professional and receiving direction and training from a Research Technologist, the Technician Trainee assists on research projects, prepares test samples, performs simple analyses, provides technical data for reporting purposes and assembles equipment. Work is performed in the TST laboratory, with occasional project support at operating plants at Teck’s Trail Operation and at Teck properties within Canada.
The job group for this role will range between 23 – 28 and be determined based on experience as per the Technician Starting Schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Prepare test samples, perform lab work and simple analyses
- Provide technical data for reporting purposes
- Assemble equipment in support of technical projects and investigations, and write reports
- Perform work in the laboratory and in the operating plants at Trail Operations
Qualifications:
- Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Earth Sciences or be graduates from a Chemical Technology program at a recognized Institute of Technology, preferably in Chemical Sciences or Metallurgy
- Candidates must have a basic knowledge of physical, chemical, geology or metallurgical processes
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and a good awareness of chemical safety issues are necessary for this position
- Familiar with the use of relevant computer software including Excel, and be able to produce basic technical reports
- Good interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills are required to liaise effectively with engineering, operating and technical personnel
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment is required
