Process Safety Engineer (Temporary 15-18 Months)


Trail, BC, CA

  • Providing support for the advancement of risk and process safety culture at Trail Operations including the development and documentation of up to date risk and process safety management plans;
  • Assisting in the management of the Site Risk Register to adequately assess and prioritize activities to reduce operational risk magnitude;
  • Participating in maintaining process safety management system elements within Trail Operations systems including management of change, critical asset integrity, operating and emergency response procedures, training, contractor management and safe work practices;
  • Completing process safety reviews and developing recommendations for addressing process safety issues;
  • Facilitating and participating in risk and process hazard assessments for existing plant operations, projects and process/equipment/health and safety/environment changes;
  • Providing training support, coaching and quality review of risk and process hazard assessments;
  • Leading or participating in process safety incident investigations;
  • Liaising with and coaching of Trail Operations personnel regarding risk management and process safety management



  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering or similar
  • Accredited Professional Engineer or equivalent in a technically related field, or ability to become accredited
  • 5 + years of experience in an industrial environment spanning complex, varied and dynamic scopes
  • Trained Process Hazard Analysis Facilitator with experience in leading Process Hazard Analysis Techniques (such as What-if, HAZOPs, FMEA, LOPA, Fault Tree Analysis, QRA)
  • Knowledge of Risk Management and Assessment principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication and influencing skills
  • Experience with computer applications including Word, Excel, MS Project, AutoCAD
  • Exposure to modeling with PHAST, ALOHA is desirable
  • Process Safety certification or working towards is desirable
