Occupational Health Nurse

Location:  Trail, BC, CA

Closing Date:  April 6, 2018

Reporting to the Industrial Hygienist, the Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for administering programs which promote healthy and safe work practices for employees. .


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Work with the Disability Management team to help formulate return to work plans and strategies to assist with the reintegration of injured workers.
  • Work with the site Medical Consultant to evaluate and make an assessment of the medical and physical fitness of candidates for employment or placement for the work for which the candidates are being considered.
  • Develop programs to promote health and hygiene in the workplace, assess and identify areas which demand occupational health programs to be implemented.
  • Perform health and hygiene awareness education pertaining to personal heavy metals and noise protection and reduction.
  • Provide patient examination, education and counselling in support of the Fitness for Work Program.
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate the transfer of information with outside service agencies for individuals requiring treatment.
  • Assist employees in dealing with medical issues or concerns by referring them to the appropriate resource for assistance.
  • Produce, maintain and distribute statistical data for administrative, educational and research purposes.
  • Research and recommend specialized medical equipment needs for the Health Centre in the maintenance and upgrade of existing equipment.


  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC).
  • Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent related work experience in Occupational Health or Public Health Nursing.
  • Comprehensive understanding of disability case management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in areas of occupational health such as ability management, ergonomics, health promotion/wellness, health surveillance and industrial hygiene.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and hygiene trends and issues, provincial legislation, regulations, codes and industry best practices.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence others and work with cross-functional teams.
