Requirements

Successful candidates must be motivated self-starters, able to work under minimal supervision and be able to manage several projects simultaneously. 

The positions also require strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.  A strong working knowledge of MS Word and Excel is necessary, and a working knowledge of PowerPoint and Access would be advantageous.

All students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work.

Teck Resources’ co-op students obtain the knowledge and skills required to deal with challenges that may arise at a large-scale mining operation.  Our employees are versatile, flexible and well-equipped to handle each project with confidence.

Responsibilities

The Industrial Hygiene/Health and Safety Co-op Student hired by Teck Coal Ltd. will be given the opportunity to practice their skills in the Health and Safety Department.  The major responsibilities of the Health and Safety Co-op Student are as follows.

  • Involvement in the health and safety programs of Teck Resources Ltd. to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day
  • Assist in optimizing the industrial hygiene program which will include conducting ergonomic evaluations, tracking equipment inventory and conducting surveys
  • Assist with the hearing conservation program and chemical management plan
  • Setting up hygiene program elements and creating exposure control plans
  • Applicants will possess superior interpersonal skills with high competency in both written and verbal communication
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to track and analyze data as well as manage project timelines
  • Impeccable record keeping and excellent organizational skills are a must
