Intermediate Accountant

Intermediate Accountant

Reporting to the Superintendent, Financial Reporting, the Intermediate Accountant is responsible for the accounting requirements for one or more of Trail Operations’ functional departments, oversees the development and testing of the company’s accounting software, develops/ coordinates the flow of accurate and timely information for internal reporting, and aids in the development and adherence to departmental practices and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial expertise to support departments in evaluating operating scenarios, determining project economics and analyzing business cases.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the business model for Trail Operations.
  • Contribute to cost efficient operations for one or more support departments.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvements to systems, departmental practices and processes.
  • Develop and test new enhancements and troubleshoot issues within the company’s accounting software.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial and cost reports for support departments.
  • Ensure integrity of applicable general ledger account balances.
  • Maintain and update business process documentation and test conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and direction to direct reports.

 

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) (preferred) or a University degree with relevant business experience and is currently enrolled in the CPA program.
  • Five years’ experience in a related industry.
  • Understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and accounting concepts.
  • Proven ability to identify and implement improvements to financial systems and procedures.
  • Experience in using ERP systems such as JD Edwards.
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office.
  • Experience in working with Business Intelligence tools (such as PowerBI or QlikSense).
  • Time management skills along with excellent written, communication, reporting and problem-solving skills.
