Senior Supervisor, Local Scale Planning

Reporting to the Manager, Water Integrated Planning, the Senior Supervisor, Local Scale Planning is responsible for overseeing the technical direction and integration of information from a range of scientific and engineering subject areas to advise mitigation planning for valley-wide water quality management. This supports projects to achieve water, aquatic health, and business planning objectives at a watershed scale. 


To be successful, we are looking for someone with outstanding strategy development and communication skills. This is vital as you will be leading a diverse team of technical and planning experts and working with many partners and communities of interest towards building complex local scale plans. Above all else, we require an individual who has outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills, who can provide technical and strategic direction related to water quality, quantity, and aquatic health risk management. 


This is an exciting chance to work collaboratively with different departments and specialists dedicated to sustainable mining in the Elk Valley surrounding our four open-pit metallurgical coal mines, with a particular focus on mine planning and mine water management activities to support the overall health of regional aquatic ecosystems.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Provide overall leadership and accountability to develop integrated plans at a watershed scale to address issues of water quantity, water quality, aquatic health, and habitat
  • Advise on technical and strategic review and direction for study designs, reports, and engagement material to support development and implementation of local scale watershed management plans
  • Collaborate with Indigenous groups, regulatory agencies and communities and obtain feedback on objectives and plans; integrate feedback into plans and individual projects
  • Oversee all plans, schedules, and manage risks and leverage opportunities within integrated watershed plans to fulfill watershed planning objectives
  • Manage and mentor staff and consultants to support development to fulfill watershed planning objectives
  • Direct, coach, and mentor a team of five professionals
  • Incorporate our adaptive management framework to reduce uncertainty, adapt, learn, and adjust



  • Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
  • Professional designation in a related field (P. Eng, P. Geo, P. Bio) or eligible for designation required
  • Minimum ten years in resource development projects such as mine planning, regulatory strategy, policy development, and or permitting
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience
  • Experience in leading multidisciplinary projects and consulting teams
  • Experience working with Indigenous groups and regulatory agencies
  • Knowledge and experience with compliance practices and regulations related to water quality, quantity, aquatic health, and water management
