Senior Scientist or Scientist, Adaptive Water Quality Management

Reporting to the Manager Water Planning, Adaptive Water Quality Management, the Senior Scientist or Scientist, Adaptive Water Quality Management (known at Teck as Senior Scientist or Scientist, Water Quality Management) is responsible for supporting the implementation of our Water Quality objectives and environmental regulatory commitments across our five open-pit metallurgical coal mines. You will work with multi-disciplinary specialists to develop and execute our Elk Valley Water Quality Plan.

 

To be successful we require someone with outstanding organization, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, who can effectively collaborate with partners at all levels across the organization, to identify and resolve issues. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, able to learn new things, and can prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Most importantly, you must have strong problem-solving skills and an adept ability to lead change in a multi-disciplinary field.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Be part of Teck’s centralized and specialized Water Quality Management Team in implementing the objectives and mitigations of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan
  • Lead, maintain, adapt, coordinate, and communicate the water quality adaptive management plan including working directly with internal and external partners across multiple disciplines
  • Cultivate relationships with key partners through regular dialogue and coordinated work sessions, encouraging collaboration and communication
  • Manage the water quality adaptive management program, including strategy, budget, scope, schedule, risks and opportunities, consultant management, and regulatory and First Nations engagement
  • Seek and develop novel ideas to sustainable development in water quality management and lead a program that puts new ideas into practice
  • Direct, coach, mentor, and lead the Adaptive Management Plan coordinator
  • Incorporate our adaptive management framework and ensure effective management of change processes are employed

 

Qualifications:

  • Science or Engineering degree in Water/Water Quality, Environmental, Biology, or related field
  • Minimum seven years’ experience for a Senior Scientist
  • Minimum four years’ experience for a Scientist
  • Demonstrated ability in adaptive management and/or multidiscipline strategy development, and project/program management
  • Professional designation in related field is a requirement for the Senior Scientist
  • Professional designation or the ability to work towards one, in a related field is preferred for a Scientist
