Project Geologist or Senior Project Geologist

Reporting to the Technical Director, the Project Geologist or Senior Project Geologist (known at Teck as Geology Lead, Work Package) is responsible for project management, of the geology work package on our FRX project. This includes exploration, data management, and modelling as part of prefeasibility studies facilitating the regulatory, planning, and ultimately, predevelopment activities prior to mining.


To be successful we require someone with strong communication and interpersonal skills, who is able to build relationships in a team and with people of varying backgrounds. Someone who is self-motivated, adaptable, and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone with outstanding decision-making, problem solving, and creative thinking abilities.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Plan the geology work package, with input from senior Geology personnel, to meet the objectives of the current project phase according to Teck’s project deliver framework
  • Prepare the annual geology work plan for field exploration works and acquire regulatory approval
  • Supervise exploration drilling and associated work, including supervising staff and contractors
  • Coordinate data management and interpretation resulting from exploration drilling
  • Update the Fording River geological model, either on the regular business unit planning cycle or for interim updates to support the project
  • Ensure geological understanding and coordinate transfer of information to project mine engineering and geotechnical, central Geoscience group, and Fording River Geology department
  • Manage the budget and schedule of the geology work package
  • Enable peer reviews of the Geology work package, as required



  • Degree or diploma in Geological sciences or Engineering
  • Minimum five years of demonstrated ability, preferably with a portion in mining or a heavy industrial environment
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
  • Knowledge of all aspects of project delivery, including prefeasibility studies, feasibility studies, detail design, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning
