Mine Engineer or Senior Mine Engineer, Water Quality Management

Reporting to the Manager Water Planning, the Mine Engineer or Senior Mine Engineer, Water Quality Management is responsible for coordinating and supporting our mine-sites so that water quality management (WQM) is addressed more proactively. We are looking for someone that will help develop and implement processes and tools to facilitate a decrease in the amount of water requiring treatment in the medium and long term.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Develop and form relationships through regular visits to site and coordinated working sessions
  • Improve the integration of water and mine planning to address water quality with a proactive approach and coordinate with other environmental objectives such as terrestrial cumulative effects
  • Provide mine engineering design and planning support, including several key projects such as saturated rock fills, graveled bed reactors, suboxic zones, and future water quality mitigation methods
  • Coordinate the development of enabling processes, tools, guidelines, and standard methodologies for mine planners to integrate water objectives into all mine plan ranges and designs
  • Provide economic analysis of mining areas including water quality costing and coordination with site mine planners and the business planning group
  • Support budget and life of mine processes, including review of mine plans for water quality opportunities
  • Support adjustments to the mitigation plan for WQM and a strategic water Research and Development plan, including future alternative treatment technologies
  • Coordinate mine plans with water modeling, environment and social responsibility, and site teams including the water quality hierarchy of controls, water balance, and water management
  • Capture recent mine planning information as input for water modelling and water planning


  • University Degree in Engineering or equivalent with Mining, Civil, or Geotechnical specialization
  • Minimum five years of progressively senior level experience in mine planning. Preference in open pit, or truck and shovel operations
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, with Engineers and Geoscientist of British Columbia (EGBC)
  • Proven understanding of, and experience with, long range mine planning and pit and spoil design
  • Familiarity with mine planning software tools, especially Minesite, XPAC Solutions, and Comet
  • Strong digital literacy, particularly with the Microsoft Office Suite®: Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both formal and informal settings
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, including leading change and making recommendations
  • Sophisticated analytical, problem solving, and decision making abilities
  • Ability to work in a proactive manner and possesses excellent time management skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience coordinating and working collaboratively with a team, with strong skills to interact and communicate across multiple sites
