Geotechnical Engineer or Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Reporting to the Technical Director, the Geotechnical Engineer or Senior Geotechnical Engineer (known at Teck as Geotechnical Lead, Work Package) is responsible for project management of the geotechnical work package on our FRX project. This includes exploration drilling and data collection, internal and external analysis, and recommendations to support mine engineering, which facilitates the regulatory, planning, and ultimately, predevelopment activities prior to mining.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Plan the geotechnical work package, with input from senior geotechnical personnel, to meet the objectives of the current project phase, according to Teck’s project delivery framework, and future geotechnical work to meet permitting requirements
  • Scope and project manage work by external geotechnical consultants to support the geotechnical work package
  • Prepare the annual geotechnical work plan for field exploration works and acquire regulatory approval for the annual plan
  • Supervise exploration drilling and associated field studies, including supervising staff and contractors
  • Lead data management and interpretation resulting from exploration drilling
  • Lead the update to the project geotechnical and/or structural model, either on the regular business unit planning cycle or for interim updates to support the project
  • Project management for the geotechnical assessment and design work for pits, spoils, and roads, with both internal and external resources
  • Present to Teck’s external independent Geotechnical Review Board, receives recommendations, and incorporates them into the project plans.
  • Manage the budget and schedule of the work package
  • Enable peer reviews of the Geotechnical work package, as required

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent, with Geological, Civil, or Mining specialization
  • Minimum five years of demonstrated ability, preferably with a portion in mining or heavy industrial environment
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
  • Knowledge of all aspects of project delivery, including prefeasibility studies, feasibility studies, detail design, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning
