Analyst Operating Excellence

Sparwood, BC, CA

Reporting to the Senior Specialist Operating Excellence, the Analyst Operating Excellence is responsible for reporting, decision support, and scenario evaluation for the Business Unit (BU).

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Update, maintain, and consolidate BU reporting
  • Perform analysis to support conception and prioritization of business improvement ideas, and to explain deviations to targets
  • Uncover insights and drive performance improvement using advanced analytics
  • Develop predictive models based on historical performance, and forecasts
  • Collaborate with the BU and site Operating Excellence resources to understand and document current state processes and opportunities 
  • Prepare reports and dashboards on market indicators, as well as sales performance on price, volume, and market share
  • Produce presentation documents to support executive meetings
  • Solve complex business problems and react to unexpected issues with tight deadlines
  • Perform business analytics, simulation, modeling, financial evaluation, and provide executive decision support
  • Apply statistical modelling, such as regression analysis, time-series analysis, cluster and segmentation analysis, predictive modelling, logistic regression, and hypothesis testing

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, or quantitative business discipline; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum one year of experience working in a similar business environment
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, critical thinking skills
  • Strong ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Experience in statistical modelling such as; regression analysis, time-series analysis, cluster and segmentation analysis, predictive modelling, logistic regression, hypothesis testing, and econometrics
  • Knowledge of business improvement tools and techniques such as root cause analysis, statistical process control, six sigma, lean manufacturing techniques, and theory of constraints is an advantage
  • Proficiency in statistical packages (i.e. R)
  • Proficiency in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and expert knowledge of MS Excel
  • Proficiency in database management systems and SQL to create complex queries, joins, and reports
  • Ability to convert data into meaningful information that users can understand and act on to drive value added decisions
  • Strong team player with ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working with large datasets
  • Mining experience would be an advantage
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and partner effectively with other team members
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as appropriate for the needs of varied audiences
  • Collaborative and team-oriented, but able to work individually with minimal supervision when required
  • Ability to travel as needed
