Assayer I

Contract - 6 months

 

Reporting to the Lab Supervisor, the Assayer I is responsible for ensuring that the assay lab is operated as per specified by operating procedures while maintaining a safe working environment.  The technician is required to have knowledge of multiple analytical instruments and techniques to meet the assay lab client’s requests.


Responsibilities:

•    Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
•    An Assayer I is required to be able to operate the following analytical instruments: Auto tritrator, Atomic

     Absorption, UV Spectrophotometer, Particle Size Analyzer, and pH Meter
•    Perform solid analysis
•    Required to know the basics of the assay quality control program. This includes ensuring equipment is

     calibrated, running check standards and duplicates
•    Required to properly handle and dispose of waste. This includes the operation of the assay lab trade waste

     interceptor
•    Ability to multi task while applying time management skills to prioritize rush samples and daily tasks
•    Perform housekeeping and maintenance within the assay lab.  This includes cleaning/changing filters and

     cylinders, washing glassware, and archiving samples
•    Other related duties as assigned


Qualification:

•    Requires a post-secondary science degree from a university or technical program
•    Previous experience in laboratory setting highly preferred 
•    Ability to multi-task, have strong organizational skills, a motivated self-starter, and able to work well under

     pressure to get results 
•    Ability to work shifts (including night shifts and weekends)
