Metallurgical Intern

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a temporary non-exempt Metallurgical Intern.

Red Dog Mine, located in NW Alaska, is a large, technically challenging open pit mine, mill and port facility. It is a remote, but modern and well-equipped fly-in fly-out operation that provides free room and board for employees, and regular transportation to and from the point of hire for the duration of the placement.

Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist the Metallurgical Intern is responsible for test work for the Water Treatment plants, assisting with water/plant sampling and metallurgical projects.


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Assist the metallurgical engineers with their projects.
  • Conduct sludge testing and assist with the operation of the Water Treatment Plants.
  • Collect water samples.
  • Conduct flotation laboratory test work.
  • Conduct small pilot plant tests.
  • Calibrating moisture and sizing equipment.
  • Small project test work.


  • Current college or university student working towards a degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office 2010 and Excel.
  • Must have good organization and observation skills.
  • Must have strong communication skills.
  • Prior laboratory experience would be an asset.
  • Respirator use is required, as part of the job is conducted in the mill with significant physical activity.
