Fire Systems Service Person x2


Red Dog, AK, US

Reporting to the Safety and Health Coordinator and working in conjunction with all departments, the Fire Systems Service Person is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all Red Dog Operations fire protection systems.  This includes the alarm systems, sprinkler systems, special hazard systems, and other associated equipment.  This position is also responsible for checking and maintaining all fire extinguishers and mobile equipment fire suppression systems.

Rotation Schedule will be an even rotation.


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Respond and troubleshoots all alarms
  • Responsible for the certification, routine and preventative maintenance of all monitoring and alarms systems throughout the personnel accommodations complex, mill, powerhouse, crushers, services complex and out-buildings
  • Responsible for the certification, routine and preventative maintenance of all suppression systems including: 
    • Diesel, electric and jockey pumpsAlarm systems
    • Sprinklers, systems
    • Special Hazard systems
    • Hydrant systems, mains and laterals
    • Standpipes and hose cabinets
    • Fixed, portable, and mobile dry chemical extinguishers
    • Conveyor dry chemical suppression systems
    • Powerhouse Foam System
    • Kitchen hood systems
    • Mobile Mining Equipment
    • Fire Extinguishers
  • Ensure all records, procedures, methods, manuals and training are maintained in an orderly and up-to-date manner
  • Responsible for investigating and recommending system upgrades, as required
  • Provide fire systems expertise to third party external agencies such as FM Global, Mining Safety Health Administration, State of Alaska Fire Marshalls as required to ensure Red Dog compliance with various regulations


  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Must have experience with installation, maintenance and testing of; fire extinguishers, fire alarms and  sprinkler systems
  • Alaska Fire System Permit I b, II b or III b.
  • Alaska level III Fire Extinguisher permit required
  • Understanding of the State of Alaska fire permitting regulations
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work effectively across all levels of the business
  • Mining or heavy industry experience is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Mathematics.
