Business Improvement Facilitator

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Business Improvement Facilitator.  Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for career oriented individuals to fill this role.

Red Dog Mine, located in Northwest Alaska, is a large, technically challenging open pit mine, mill and port facility. It is a remote, but modern and well-equipped fly-in fly-out operation that provides free room and board for employees, and regular transportation to and from Anchorage and surrounding regional villages.

Rotation schedule will be two weeks onsite and two week offsite. 

Reporting to the Business Improvement Team Leader, the Business Improvement Facilitator is accountable for working with on-site management to develop and mentor a process improvement mindset and system and to provide consultative and business focuses services to department leaders and teams.

Responsibilities: 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Identify the key drivers of the business.
  • Define goals, objectives, and targets.
  • Evaluate existing resources and conduct gap analyses.
  • Make recommendations to the line about allocation of resources and assign responsibilities to manage the ideas pipeline.
  • Identify action items, schedules, and milestones to create an accountability instrument for the plan.
  • Confirms results with staff and management; incorporate feedback.
  • Develop new business improvement ideas and conduct regular idea owner reviews.
  • Monitor progress; update regularly. (Using action tracker and KPI’s)
  • Coach the line supervision in Result Action Review preparation maintaining a priority for continuous improvement
  • Recommends business simplification opportunities as recognized and supports implementation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering is required
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a Business Improvement role preferably in the mining industry
  • Experience using Business Improvement tools i.e. Root cause analysis, OEE, mistake proofing, DMAIC, & 5S is required
  • Strong interpersonal communication, written and verbal skills
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work effectively across all levels of the business
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint, applications
