Teck is looking for an experienced Project Coordinator/ Project Specialist to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world's largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Project Superintendent, Asset Management, the Project Coordinator/ Project Specialist is responsible for planning, leading, coordinating and executing projects related to major maintenance activities, maintenance activities, periodic outages, and opportunity or emergency work identified.

 

This role is based in the welcoming community of Trail, situated in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Here you will find outdoor adventure at your fingertips! Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Act as the project lead for studies and project execution to develop, advance and implement projects at Trail Operations. This will require collaboration within a multidisciplinary team comprising of members from various business areas, departments and engineering/consulting teams
  • Prepare appropriation requests and feasibility studies
  • Review maintenance scopes, design criteria, equipment specification, and constructability to ensure scope of work is well defined and the execution plan is achievable in collaboration with team members including Maintenance Engineers and Planners
  • Ensure waste management (categorization, storage and disposal) is planned and executed
  • Participate in the development of contracting strategy, scope of work, schedules, cost estimates and qualified contractor bid list ensuring cost, quality and contract schedule meet Teck’s requirements and minimizes overruns during the execution of the contract. Ensure best value is delivered through use of plant trades, maintenance support trades and contractors.
  • Issue Contractor Notifications to the Union, purchase requisition and single source justification for all contract work packages
  • Manage and coordinate daily contractor resources and tasks by ensuring permits, contractor inductions and safe work plans are in place before work commences
  • Ensure that all known plant hazards are identified, and systems are in place to control, mitigate and to address hazards through:
  • Applicable material safety data sheets (MSDS)
  • Following/modifying plant procedures
  • Completing Hazard Risk Assessments (HRA)
  • Participating in Process Hazard Assessments (PHA), incident investigations, preventative action request (PAR’s) and corrective action requests (CAR’s), audits and Job Safety Observations (JSO)
  • Developing and executing permits as required
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure safe work practices and work performed meets specified requirements including documenting observations and deficiencies and ensuring appropriate action is taken
  • Ensure commissioning activities are planned and executed prior to start-up, providing support and expertise to Operations
  • Ensure management of construction contracts and the construction change control processes
  • Ensure that work packages that introduce change are managed appropriately through the MOC process
  • Ensure the archiving of all project files and ensuring the project is closed out; sign-off of ‘Assumption of Control, Ready for Start-Up’ by Operations; project post-mortem and completion reports are done as appropriate

Qualifications:

  • 5 years’ experience minimum in an operations, project management, engineering or project coordination role
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office Suite of products. Experience with JDEdwards, MS Project a plus
  • Effective communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, reports, procedures, and specifications post-mortem and completion reports are done as appropriate

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

 

Please note this role does require the successful candidate to live within 100KM of Trail,  British Columbia. Relocation assistance will be offered however there is no camp or company housing.

 

Pay Range: CAD $105,000 - $130,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
