Water Resource Engineer - EIT

Reporting to the Water Resource Lead, the Water Resource Engineer / Geoscientist -in-Training will support the implementation of the Teck Water Governance framework, Water Policy and Sustainability Goals by executing water projects, providing technical expertise and applying leading practices.
The successful candidate will work as part of a team to implement the HVC Water Management System for an extensive water management network servicing operating and legacy tailings facilities, water supply dams, and water supply infrastructure. This will include supporting surface and ground water data collection, data management, and reporting on water metrics. The candidate will be responsible for project management of water-related studies and field investigations. The position requires collaboration with a variety of people from across the site and with external consultants and contractors. Adaptability and effective verbal and written communication skills are critical for success in the role.


Responsibilities:
•    Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
•    Support implementation of the Teck Water Governance framework, Water Policy and Sustainability Goals for water
•    Manage the collection, QA/QC and reporting of groundwater and surface water data
•    Assist with hydrology and hydrogeology studies and site investigations
•    Develop scopes of work, project plans and RFPs
•    Use appropriate project management controls to track scope, schedule and cost
•    Conduct health and safety risk assessments, implement controls to mitigate hazards, conduct inspections, report incidents and participate in audits and investigations
•    Manage contractors and consultants to ensure their work is conducted safely and in accordance with Environmental Protection work plans
•    Training of junior employees, co-op students, and contractors
•    Support water management coordination meetings (prepare presentations and take minutes)
•    Available for periodic after hours response to environmental incidents, as needed
•    Perform other responsibilities as assigned or required

Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Water Resource, Civil or Environmental Engineering, or one of the Earth Sciences disciplines (i.e., Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Water Resources) and eligible for immediate registration with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia
•    Minimum of 5 years technical experience in the field of hydrology, hydrogeology, and/or water management and with managing projects
•    Experience with water monitoring and proficient in data management
•    Experience with data analytics and AQUARIUS, EQuIS, and PowerBI is an asset
•    Experience using Goldsim simulation software for water balance modelling is desired
•    Technical knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices
•    Strong analytical and decision making abilities with a proven capacity in practical problem solving
•    Demonstrated ability to effectively work as part of a team in a dynamic environment
•    This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground
