Senior Water Resource Engineer (Temporary 2 Years)

The Senior Water Resource Engineer will be responsible for overall site water management at the Teck Highland Valley Copper mine. They will lead the team responsible for implementing the Teck Water Governance framework, Water Policy and Sustainability Goals through execution of water projects, providing technical expertise and application of leading practices across the site. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing long term strategic plans aimed at ensuring surface water and groundwater resources are protected and used responsibly. This is a two year contract position.


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Oversee the ongoing implementation of the Teck Water Governance framework, Water Policy and Sustainability Goals for water
  • Lead the site Water Team to ensure coordination of water management objectives across departments
  • Lead technical workshops and work with Communities of Interest and other stakeholders
  • Support permitting for operations and major projects
  • Manage the site Water Balance Model in GoldSim to inform operational decisions regarding water supply for mill operations while maintaining commitments to downstream users
  • Prepare and manage operating and capital budgets using appropriate project management controls to support operations and execute water management improvement projects on schedule and on budget
  • Manage contractors and consultants to ensure work is conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner and delivered on time.
  • Manage the collection, QA and reporting of data collected from surface and ground water monitoring locations across the site
  • Complete hydrology and hydrogeology studies and site investigations, as required
  • Assist with training of employees, contractors, and others
  • Available for periodic after hours response to environmental incidents, as needed
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned or required


Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years technical experience in the field of water resources and/or mine water management, including hydrotechnical, hydrogeology and geochemistry disciplines
  • Registered as a professional engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) or the ability to be registered within 12 months.
  • Proficient in GoldSim modeling and use of model results to inform operational and project decisions
  • Proficient in water data management, analysis and reporting, specifically with AQUARIUS software
  • Project management experience, including scope, schedule and cost management
  • Technical knowledge of relevant federal and provincial environmental legislation, standards, and effective industry practices
  • Strong analytical and decision making abilities with a proven capacity in practical problem solving
  • Experience using and developing SharePoint is a significant asset
  • This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground
