Senior Coordinator, Water Stewardship (2 Years)

Reporting to the Senior Lead Regulatory & Engagement, the Senior Water Stewardship Coordinator works with HVC Environment, Community and other departments to adapt compliance projects and programs to meet the needs of Indigenous Governments and Organizations. These needs will be identified through engagement and in reference to Impact Benefit Agreements.  Teck’s values, BC Bill 41 and the spirit of reconciliation will inform and guide the development of water stewardship initiatives that reflect the interest and values of Indigenous Governments yet leverages work done in compliance with Provincial approvals and permits and to meet Teck’s broader water stewardship commitments (e.g., ICMM and The Copper Mark).


To be successful we are looking for someone with outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, who can effectively collaborate with partners with varying backgrounds, and at different seniority levels. The successful candidate should be a self-starter with strong problem-solving skills who can prioritize competing demands. Most importantly, we require an individual with outstanding presentation and engagement abilities, who can develop and maintain relationships and be the go-to person in this field.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures 
  • Work closely with external parties to advance water stewardship initiatives, in accordance with HVC Operating requirements and values
  • Work with HVC Environment, Community and project teams to integrate Indigenous interests and values into water stewardship activities
  • Provide strategic leadership at multi-stakeholder working groups, maintaining positive relationships with key partners in government, local communities, and Indigenous Groups
  • Optimize the interface between regulatory and Corporate driven water stewardship activities and activities undertaken in response to the priorities of Indigenous Governments and Organizations that HVC has Participation Agreements with
  • Manage and track water related concerns of Indigenous Groups and coordinate mitigation with site activities 
  • Provide input and strategic advice on budget decisions and allocations
  • Review documents and provide feedback to authors to improve readability for non-technical audiences
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned or required



  • Engineering or Science degree in mining, natural resources or environmental-related field.
  • Minimum eight years’ experience in mining, resource development, industrial operations, environmental management, environmental assessment, or regulatory field.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and productively as a team member and with external communities of interest including regulatory agencies and Indigenous groups.
  • Strong organizational (including time management), interpersonal and communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize priorities based on deadlines and strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with technical document review
