Teck Highland Valley Copper Partnership (THVCP) is one of Canada’s largest base metal copper-moly mines and is owned and operated by Teck Resources. THVCP offers an attractive salary and benefits package.  The Highland Valley is a very attractive location offering a wide variety of recreational opportunities such as hiking, skiing, fishing and golf. The mine site is a 50 minute drive from Kamloops, B.C. which has a population of approximately 85,000 and provides all of the comforts of city living. The mine site is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small town community atmosphere.

THVC is currently seeking an individual in the role of: Project Engineer, Autonomous Haulage

 

Reporting to the Superintendent, Transformational Technologies, the Project Engineer will serve as a primary resource for project management and optimization of Highland Valley Copper’s Autonomous Haulage Project. This role is accountable for coordinating, planning and execution of project construction activities as well as managing business improvement initiatives to optimize autonomous haulage.

An excellent knowledge and awareness of project management, autonomous technology, and open pit mining is essential to be able to identify potential risks and realizing opportunities to ensure the project meets or exceeds expectations. 
 

Responsibilities

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor Teck’s commitment to health, safety, environmental and community (HSEC) protection as a core value. 
  • Responsible for planning and scheduling of the project as well as tracking progress to successfully deliver on project milestones and deliverables.
  • Responsible for maintaining and improving financial forecasting and all related cost control activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining accurate and relevant metrics for autonomous systems performance including but not limited to safety, productivity, efficiency, and cost.
  • Identifying and driving productivity improvement initiatives in a pragmatic, measurable, process driven way to maximize pace of autonomy value capture
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of project management documentation
  • Creation of project progress updates to be delivered to project manager, steering committee, and other stakeholder groups
  • Ensure that project decisions are defended and coordinated with operations, maintenance, engineering and construction contractors
  • Support Teck Highland Valley Copper project team and site contractors in development of work plans.
  • Coordinate with Teck Highland Valley Copper stakeholders and departments.
  • Responsible for transferring learnings from actual project implementation and optimization into the improvement of other potential deployments.
  • Administrative duties where appropriate and necessary for the smooth implementation of the job role.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience

 

  • Change Agent: experience and understanding of effective change management

  • Self-manager: able to independently deliver work products to timelines

  • Solid understanding of mining industry fundamentals
  • Minimum 5 years of open pit mining, project management, and field experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in  Mining, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Operational experience with mining autonomy would be considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Proficient in ERP Systems, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
