Community Affairs Coordinator

The Community Coordinator is responsible for lead engagement activities, tracking Indigenous engagement, coordinating critical community engagement events and supporting the implementation of the Indigenous project assessment agreements.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures;
  • Be proactive in identifying meaningful partnerships to Teck leadership;
  • Identify and manage social risks and opportunities in THVCP’s area of Influence through : Coordinate an effective, transparent site-level feedback mechanism for its Communities of Interest (COIs);
  • Coordinate and manage community/employee engagement events such as the United Way Campaign and mine site tours; 
  • Coordinate Community Investment, consistent with Teck’s Corporate policy, site realities, and industry best practice; 
  • Participate in the implementation of community development programs;
  • Monitor and update COI engagement plans and engagement activities;
  • Assist in monitoring site level data on social performance such as baselines and impact assessments, risk registers, engagement tracking, and management plans;
  • Report on internal and external social performance at THVCP;
  • Coordinate, provide logistical support and potentially with local communities;
  • Database administration and support; 
  • General duties as assign.

 
Qualifications:

 

  • Post-Secondary education in community relations, social sciences, international development, social work, sustainability, public health, participatory research, advocacy, and/or economic  development;
  • Direct work experience with community relations, community development, and/or community investment;
  • Knowledge and understanding of local social and community context;
  • Knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and/or Indigenous peoples;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including active listening, and public speaking;
  • Critical attention to detail;
  • Demonstrate strong skills in Microsoft Office especially in Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint; 
  • Demonstrated planning, organizing, meeting facilitation and event coordination skills;
  • High degree of initiative, self-motivation, accountability, and independent judgment;
  • Experience and understanding of the mining industry is an asset;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (minimum BC class 7N or equivalent);
  • Grade 12 certification or GED or equivalent.
