Reporting to the Superintendent, Environment, the Senior Lead, Environment – Project Development is responsible for planning, supervising, and implementing the environmental activities and initiatives associated with projects at and associated with the site.
To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong project leadership abilities, who can excel in a technical team environment with nominal supervision; someone with excellent written and verbal communication, who can effectively engage with communities of interest and professionals at all levels of the organization for the purpose of driving change and continuous improvement. In addition, strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills as well as the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are vital for this role.

Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Supervise a team of professionals who are responsible for the successful delivery, integration, and implementation of projects with existing operations
- Ensure proper collection, management, and reporting of site data as per standardized procedures, meet QA/QC standards, audit data, and report operational data for internal and external purposes
- Participate in regulatory and internal audits, inspections, and investigations to maintain and improve compliance to regulatory requirements and management processes
- Obtain minor operational permits and permit amendments required to maintain operations in accordance with guidance from the Business Unit (BU) Regulatory Approvals group
- Manage various environmental monitoring programs to support site operations
- Support development and implementation of site-specific environmental awareness programs, and provide practical mentorship and assistance to departments across the site to further a culture of sustainability
- Support the implementation and integration of environmental requirements into site operational practices
- Support the day to day and emerging site matters at operations
- Respond to and report environmental incidents and emergencies as set out in emergency response plans and procedural documents
- Working closely with other site-based operational and functional departments, support the development, assessment, review, and implementation of site related projects to ensure operational readiness and site sustainability and compliance
- Work interactively with other environmental senior coordinators, as well as the BU Environment and Social Responsibility team and corporate legal counsel
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Forestry, Agriculture, or a related field
- Registered, or eligible to apply as a qualified professional such as RP BIO, P.Eng., RPF or related designation
- Minimum eight years demonstrated ability working in an environmental management capacity and three years of team leadership experience
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Technical knowledge of federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations related to resource development
- Understanding of environmental assessment requirements and various regulatory authorizations requirements
- Expertise in maintaining Environmental Management Systems, and strong experience in environmental data management and reporting, including database systems
