Lead Environment, Management Systems

Reporting to the Environment Superintendent, the Environment Lead, Management Systems (at Teck known as Lead, Environmental Performance) is responsible for driving the environmental aspects of the Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) management system and its continuous improvement. This role will focus on the development and implementation of preventative programs supporting improved environmental performance at Greenhills Operations. While this is a site-based role, it can be deployed to any site depending on the scope and scale of issues.

This person will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across all levels of multidisciplinary teams. This role presents a diverse range of challenges across multiple subject areas and requires a critical thinker with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. Lastly, you will be a process-oriented individual with strong organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Maintain all management system elements such as the HSEC Obligations Register, Environmental Risk Register, and Controlled Document Libraries
  • Collaborate closely with departments to develop or improve controls that address environmental compliance obligations and risks
  • Develop training and awareness materials and deliver presentations to multiple departments
  • Conduct assurance checks and proactively identify areas needing improvement
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary problem-solving sessions related to historic non-compliances and known risk sources
  • Collaborate closely with departments and subject areas to develop and implement a variety of corrective and preventive action plans
  • Track and report on progress against performance metrics and various corrective action plans

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering or Science; an environmental related field is preferred
  • Hold a professional designation and meet the BC provincial requirements of a qualified professional for applicable programs is an asset
  • Minimum five years of experience providing technical direction on environmental risks and challenges associated with resource management
  • Technical knowledge of federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations related to air quality, waste management, spill response, and remediation
  • Excellent project management experience with a track record that includes management and technical direction of multiple projects and budgets
  • Proficient in environmental data management, analysis, reporting, and environmental databases
