Electronics Technician, Electrical Engineering Technologist

Reporting to the Automation Specialist, the Electronics Technician, Electrical Engineering Technologist is responsible for designing, programming, and commissioning instrumentation and automation control systems for our Fording River operation. The ideal candidate enjoys being part of a multi-disciplinary team including electrical, mechanical, reliability, and process engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Work as a part of a highly collaborative team with a focus on delivering value and promoting sharing of best practices across operations
  • Work with plant engineers, external vendors, operators, and management to coordinate projects and assignments
  • Read and interpret electrical and control systems schematics
  • Produce and maintain electrical drawings with AutoCAD
  • Understand and develop control systems from engineering documents such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, control narratives, and function diagrams
  • Program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI), including Allen-Bradley, Schneider-Electric, and other PLC platforms
  • Provide feedback on jobs, including determining time required, material needs, labour requirements, and impact on uptime
  • Develop and maintain documentation of standards, best practices, and new initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Engineering Technologist Diploma in Electrical or Instrumentation
  • Registered or eligible to register with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC)
  • One to four years of work experience would be preferred
  • Knowledge of electrical controls, motor control centers, and power distribution equipment
  • Experience with process control hardware and instrumentation would be preferred
  • Basic practical electrical knowledge such as motor starters, contactors, fuses, overloads, field push buttons, disconnects, transformers, breakers, and low voltage distribution
  • Knowledge and familiarity with developing high-quality electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, maintain high quality of work, and quickly learn new skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills
  • Strong cross-functional team participant with a collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Highly motivated individual that is able to work independently
  • Must be self-motivated, results oriented, and be flexible to work well under tight schedules in a fast paced multi-disciplinary team environment
