Senior Project Geologist - Turkey

Reporting to the Principal Geologist, the Senior Project Geologist – Turkey is responsible for the execution of high-quality geoscience programs throughout various mineral exploration projects & activities within Turkey. Duties encompass all aspects of survey planning and execution through to data integration and interpretation. The role will actively pursue leading geoscience practice in support of discovery and technical objectives through engagement of multi-disciplinary teams, group subject matter expertise and cutting-edge industry practice. The Senior Project Geologist also provides coaching and development of junior operational and technical project staff within Turkey. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Exhibit a strong and proactive commitment to Teck’s health, safety, environment and community (HSEC) values. 

  • As directed by senior technical staff and management, develop work proposals which would materially advance mineral exploration projects.  

  • Plan and operate approved programs adhering to Teck’s sustainability (HSEC, etc) codes, standards and values.  Oversee and supervise project support staff as required. 

  • Execute technical geoscience work programs (mapping, drill core logging etc) across projects as required. 

  • Ensure completion of approved programs in a cost-efficient manner within the approved budget and in an acceptable timeframe, consistent with leading practice standards within the industry.  

  • Ensure the acquisition of high-quality robust technical field data.   Oversee the provision of various data products and models into geoscience interpretation workflows. 

  • Supported by the Principal Geologist and Regional Chief Geoscientist, deliver high-quality integrated geoscience interpretations supporting major project objectives and milestones.   

  • Support technical evaluation of mineral property evaluation activities as directed and make concrete technical recommendations when applicable. 

  • Support project generation activities in the region through large-scale data collection (mapping, sampling) and interpretation of sub-province and district scale datasets.   

  • Prepare technical reports as required and ensure project digital databases are stored and accessible according to local data management standards. 

  • Participate in geoscience leading practice initiatives within E&G and provide knowledge sharing back to the broader community when applicable (i.e. Communities of Practice)  

  • Provide learning opportunities to early-career geoscience (and other) professionals within Turkey in support of their development. 

  • Maintain a regional network of industry contacts (METS, peer companies, academia, etc) in support of E&G’s efforts in the region.  

 

Qualifications: 

  • Have a minimum of 8 years of relevant applied mining industry experience, especially in discovery-related activities; 

  • Graduate of a university program specializing in geology. A postgraduate degree in a geoscience discipline would also be an asset;  

  • Demonstrated expertise in field execution of standard geological and mineral exploration programs (mapping, sampling, drilling, drill core logging, etc);  

  • Be broadly familiar with standard mineral exploration practices, methods and concepts (technical and non-technical); 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in exploration for base metal and gold systems especially copper porphyry and volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits; 

  • Experience in standard geoscience software packages including but not limited to Leapfrog, ArcMap, ioGAS, etc;  

  • Be registered with, or eligible to register with, relevant professional accreditation body(ies); 

  • Strong attention to detail and process, creative and innovative with excellent abilities to integrate all geoscience disciplines in decision making; 

  • Excellent written and oral English is required; and  

  • Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required.
