Senior Geologist - Turkey

Reporting to the Manager, Exploration – Turkey, the Senior Geologist is the recognized operational and technical leader for mineral explorations projects in the region. Under the direction of management, the Senior Geologist will lead and/or collaborate with a team of professionals in geoscience, health & safety, community relations and field operations to plan and execute technical programs aimed at the discovery of economic mineral deposits. The role will provide broad technical oversight on a variety of projects and will interact with key technical leaders and subject matter experts to ensure a high standard of geoscience work, integrated interpretation, and product. A key component of this position is to develop talent organically and contribute to an engaging and inclusive high performance work environment. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures 

  • Promote the company’s commitment to health and safety and sustainability and ensure that best practices are upheld in exploration programs in Turkey; 

  • Design, manage and execute multiple greenfields exploration programs through the early-stage value chain across Turkey; 

  • Monitor operating budgets of approved programs and oversee delegation of technical and administrative work to project staff; 

  • Ensure exploration programs are completed in a safe, sustainable, cost-effective and efficient manner; 

  • Identify and implement new exploration strategies, methods and workflows within the region in collaboration with the Regional Chief Geologist; 

  • Work closely with Country Manager and Regional Chief Geoscientist to develop exploration strategies for current projects and generative programs. 

  • Contribute to the identification, assessment and recommendation of new opportunities for the company in established and emerging mineral provinces;  

  • Ensures technical practices and standards are met or exceeded and that the appropriate technical methodologies are applied; 

  • Provide relevant coaching, training and leadership to project staff contributing to their employee development and career planning; 

  • Oversee the completion of key administrative components of the programs (proposals, contracts, technical reporting, etc);  

  • Maintains a broad network of contacts within industry for intelligence and recruiting purposes; 

  • Manage relationships with local government, commercial entities, community and other stakeholders; 

  • Keep abreast of any new developments within the region including industry, government, and academic activities.  

  • Stay up to date with relevant service provider and consultant offerings. 

Qualifications: 

  • Have a minimum 12 years of experience in the mineral exploration industry, including significant experience in project operation and project generation in Turkey and/or neighbouring jurisdictions; 

  • Strong regional geological understanding of the Western Tethyan Belt; 

  • Hold a university degree in geology or an equivalent geoscience field; 

  • Be registered with, or eligible to register with, the relevant accreditation bodies; 

  • Proven experience with managing multiple exploration projects simultaneously;  

  • Demonstrated success in managing and leading teams and developing people; 

  • Specific technical knowledge of copper-gold porphyry, epithermal gold and/or volcanic hosted massive sulfide mineral systems; 

  • Be thoroughly familiar and experienced with relevant geoscience practices, methods and concepts. Experience applying these techniques to discovery programs for copper +/- gold and zinc is preferred; 

  • Strong attention to detail and process with a demonstrated ability to develop, execute and modify operating plans; 

  • Willingness to innovate technical practice as it applies to mineral exploration;  

  • Sufficient competency in written and oral English language skills is required. Superior writing, presentation and interpersonal skills are important assets.
