Business Planner


Anchorage, AK, US Red Dog, AK, US

Reporting to the Superintendent of Strategic Planning and Development, the Business Planner will be responsible for developing business strategies and creating implementation plans for the Red Dog mine operations and Mine Life Extension (MLE) Projects.  The successful candidate will be part of a small, driven team creating opportunities for the business through project planning, value assessments and prioritization.

Position is located in the Anchorage Teck office: Schedule Monday-Friday. 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Be a contributing member to a project development team passionate about delivering value to the business
  • Develop and implement opportunities by working with and listening to the operation’s departments, and develop technical specifications based on business requirements
  • Manage production data, trends and variances between actual and budget
  • Provide input to the evaluation of major capital requests.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of business strategy 
  • Build, update and maintain MS Excel based financial and valuation models
  • Conduct detailed analysis relating to quality of earnings reviews, sustainability of earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), quality of assets, working capital profile and potential risks and opportunities
  • Manage multiple initiatives and timelines simultaneously
  • Prepare regular status updates for members of the senior management team
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or Economics
  • Professional designation and/or relevant master’s degree considered an asset (e.g. CPA, CFA charter, or other similar designations)
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in finance or strategy at an Analyst or Associate level in the mining and metals sector
  • Ability to comprehend business drivers and challenges faced by clients, and able to quickly learn how to extract value from these drivers
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including the development of key scenarios and sensitivity analysis and Project ROI
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting corporate decision making, preferably through business case analysis
  • Demonstrated high levels of initiative, innovation, and collaboration
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Highly proficient in MS Office: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI
  • Proven experience managing multiple priorities
  • Effective verbal communication skills including the ability to explain technical concepts to clients
  • Personable and interacts in a cordial manner. Effective results-focused team and cross-team player
