Lead, Finance Business Partner, Technical

Reporting to the Manager, Finance Business Partner, the Lead, Finance Business Partner is responsible for the financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and capital prioritization across the Technical function. This role partners with the Technical group to deliver on both Finance and Corporate objectives and supports the financial governance and standard services for the function.

 

Key working relationships within Finance include Accounting, Tax, Assurance & Advisory, and Enterprise FP&A teams. Outside of Finance, key collaborators include Head, Digital Analytics, Head, Strategy & Innovation, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Technical Directors of Technical Services as well as key leaders within each of these teams.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Responsible for financial governance and standard services including processes, tools and templates; Coordinate and deliver management reporting, budgeting and forecasting, 5-year planning, investment committee approvals, post completion reviews and appropriation requests including coordinating and collaborating with Technical and relative business owners on any relevant valuation or cost decision support
  • Enable access to Finance SMEs and increasing Finance effectiveness through translation of business needs to Finance requirements
  • Contribute to strategy formulation by providing high-quality evidence-based analysis, and advice
  • Maintain and improve business value drivers in support of the right performance management metrics to influence improved performance
  • Deliver quality and timely management reporting including critical insights for decision-makers and prepare executive materials as the need arises
  • Responsible for on-time and quality corporate planning deliverables including capital prioritization ‘one-pagers’ promoting the Capital Decisions Analysis Framework
  • Support the Manager, Finance Business Partner to influence strategic decision-making for Technical and the Corporate level including financial, commercial and operational objectives, growth opportunities, special projects and value chain trade-offs through the provision of business intelligence
  • Cultivate and lead strategic transformation initiatives
  • Provide strategic financial insights and recommendation for regular and ad hoc business reviews and initiatives
  • Develop business and financial models for short-term and long-term strategic forecasts
  • Find opportunities to improve processes, systems and behaviors both internally for the team and externally for Technical

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Business, Economics, or a related field; MBA or equivalent post-graduate degree is an asset
  • Expert ability to build and grow positive relationships within a fast paced, highly ambiguous environment
  • A professional designation related to finance (e.g. Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, Master of Business Administration or Master of Science in Mineral Economics) is an asset
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience or in a role with transferrable skills, previous experience in the Energy or Natural Resources sector including experience supporting Technology teams
  • Advanced ability to build and interpret financial models with a strong understanding of business drivers and the ability to explore and recommend opportunities to improve performance and manage risks in decision making
  • Expert at gathering and synthesizing inputs, framing opportunities, and leading decision-making conversations from a fact-based position
  • Proficiency in developing analytical methods and advanced concepts in finance with the ability to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles to the solution of corporate business problems
  • Collaborative, prioritizes relationship-building skills, and is adept at working with personnel at all levels of seniority across the organization
  • A self-starter who can prioritize amongst multiple projects at once and work with limited guidance
  • A high degree of critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Able to develop hypotheses that are grounded in facts and logical assumptions that can be validated and updated throughout analysis
  • Inquisitive and shows intellectual curiosity through asking well formulated questions and taking personal risk to raise points of creative tension
  • Delivers with a “fit-for-purpose” approach focusing on the key levers or inputs that have a material impact on outcomes and results

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

 

​ Salary Range: $117,000 - $144,000  ​
