Technician, Data & Information

The Technician, Data & Information, reporting to the Manager, US Lands and Assets will support GIS and data management on US Land and Legal, assist with US Exploration projects, Dormant Properties, Evaluations and Geoscience initiatives. The position is based in Spokane, WA with the potential for travel to other Teck offices, sites and conferences.

 

The ideal candidate will have an basic knowledge of industry leading database and GIS applications, has a basic knowledge of information and file management procedures ensures accuracy and completeness of data integrity. Will be responsible for working with Manager and land staff to utilize and manage data inputs, in order assist in developing strategies for local land programs.  A proven ability to collaborate with and contribute to high performing multidisciplinary teams is crucial, as well as maintaining strong relationships across similar disciplines within and outside of Teck.

 

The wage scale for this job is $43,700 to $56,600 commensurate with experience and qualifications. This Teck American Incorporated full-time, regular position provides the employee (and their eligible dependents) a comprehensive flexible benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. The employee is also covered by Long Term Disability insurance and is able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. In this position, the employee will accrue a minimum of 10 days of vacation leave and 12 paid sick days (1 per month) throughout the calendar year. There are ten paid holidays per year. Responsibilities:

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Creates, updates, formats, digitizes and validates data submissions which include the geospatial database, data tracking, sourcing, transferring, indexing and archiving with accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepares maps, sections and presentation materials using GIS products.
  • Ensures that proper quality and control standards are met, undertaking QA/QC reporting, working with quality teams to mitigate errors and problems.
  • Networks with external GIS and Database Communities, attends appropriate conferences & seminars as recommended by supervisor, to stay abreast of new technologies in GIS and database utilization in the Exploration business.
  • Assists with other data assignments and technical support as needed.
  • Administer enterprise database systems for spatial GIS content (ESRI) and other related content (SharePoint, etc.) where applicable.  #LI-JN1

Qualifications:

 

  • 1-4 years experience in GIS and database applications at an advanced level. Specific experience in the resource industry would be an asset.
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are required. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within numerous diverse teams. 
  • Specific software suite skill sets preferred for the role are:
  • Experience with ESRI’s Arc Enterprise systems is strongly preferred including implementation and management of ESRI spatial data environments and related tools (e.g ArcMap, ArcPro, Portal, ArcGIS online).
  • Experience with spatial data querying and processing especially within the ESRI environment is preferred.
