Technologist, Mining Systems

Reporting to the Lead, Mining Systems, the Technologist, Mining Systems will join a high-performance team of specialists located in the Sparwood offices. The Mining Systems team is responsible for the delivery and support of leading digital mining technology that is transforming the way Teck operates its mining operations worldwide. 


The Technologist is responsible for a portfolio of operations-critical systems that are used to optimize the safety, productivity, and environmental sustainability of Teck’s mining operations. They will also be collaborating with innovative software, hardware, and service suppliers to develop, deliver, and maintain these systems. 


Key Accountabilities 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental policies and procedures. 
  • Identify, deliver, and maintain digital mining systems across all Teck operations prioritizing safe production. Systems include autonomous and conventional fleet management, high precision guidance, geotechnical monitoring, operator safety, among others. 
  • Develop and leverage relationships across Teck operations and corporate offices to facilitate alignment of objectives and encourage communication and collaboration between operations in all geographic regions. 
  • Apply organizational change management techniques to derive more value from existing technologies and ensure maximum adoption of new technologies. 
  • Develop expertise and breadth of knowledge by performing cross-team support for other Operational Technology teams. 
  • Develop and maintain standards and documentation. 
  • Facilitate and support cyber-security improvements, incident response, and forensics. 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer or Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience. 
  • Experience delivering and supporting information technology services in an industrial setting, preferably in mining. 
  • Strong dedication to customer happiness and the ability to maintain positive relationships with business partners, business management and application users. 
  • Strong multi-functional team participant and collaborative approach to problem solving. 
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a highly distributed team environment. 
  • Excellent analytical, root cause analysis and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong program and project management skills and solid understanding of business analysis techniques. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows desktop and server Operating Systems, virtualization, Active Directory. 
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals relating to wireless networking, firewalls, and knowledge of common network protocols. 
  • Valid class 5 drivers' license with a clean driving record. 
  • Deployment and support of any of the following platforms is preferred: Komatsu Frontrunner/Modular, Wenco, CAT (Minestar, Terrain, PTM), Carlson Grade, Hexagon Safemine, Navstar, IBIS, Ground Probe.
  • Programming experience using Microsoft .NET, C#, SQL Server, and Python or shell scripting including PowerShell is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems is beneficial.

Salary Range: $73,000 - $90,000

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
