Lead, Flow and Climate Monitoring

Reporting to the Program Manager, Water Monitoring and Evaluation, the Lead, Flow and Climate Monitoring (Known at Teck as Lead, Environmental Flow Needs (EFN) and Climate Monitoring) is responsible for providing technical and strategic direction to Teck's regional temperature, hydrology and climate monitoring programs. 


To be successful, we are looking for someone with attention to detail who can provide technical direction and decision-making support in advancing our environmental monitoring programs. Excellent leadership skills, as well as the ability to build positive relationships is vital. An adaptable professional who can prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment, and has strong technical writing, data analysis and presentation skills will thrive.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Manage and implement Teck’s Regional Surface Flow Monitoring Program
  • Collaborate with multiple Teck groups and stakeholders to develop and implement a regional climate monitoring program
  • Develop a regional temperature monitoring program
  • Oversee data collection and maintain regional hydrometric, temperature and climate stations; train personnel
  • Report results of hydrometric program
  • Compile, manage and assess climate, water use, water quality, and other environmental data
  • Support ongoing data management, analysis, and reporting of real time continuous data collection
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with government agencies, Indigenous groups, and local communities of interest
  • Support and guide site personnel to increase team expertise in flow and climate monitoring and drive continuous improvement

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Climate Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or other related field, or a relevant combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five years of experience collecting and managing hydrometric and/or climate monitoring programs, including field work experience
  • Experience in continuous data collection, compilation and analysis
  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures, industry standards and best practices for monitoring for hydrometric and climate data collection
  • Technical knowledge of federal and provincial mining water practices and regulatory compliance

Salary Range: $101,000 - $125,000

 

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.

 

Successful candidates must be willing to satisfy the pre-employment requirements of a pre-employment drug screen and three professional references.
