Community Field Observer x 4

The Community Field Observer is responsible for providing field observation support to the 2024 Exploration Drilling program, project team and for supporting Teck staff in the documentation of exploration and construction related activities and tasks. The individuals will work with different teams to provide assistance with various field activities through observations, sharing of Traditional Knowledge that is relevant to the area and/or activities being performed, and cross training and learning of exploration and construction activities. The Community Field Observer will compile observations into a report to be disseminated back to their home community.

 

The incumbents will be hired out of Noatak and Kivalina. 

 

Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site through the drilling season (anticipated May through October).

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhering to and sponsoring safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Fully embrace Teck’s core values, which is demonstrated by attending and actively participating in daily safety meetings 
  • Participate in safety inductions and inspections
  • Act as caribou and other wildlife spotters, and observing and reporting caribou and wildlife in or near project activities
  • Observe, record, and assist with activities related to exploration, which can include archeological clearances, soil sampling, environmental monitoring, geophysics, drilling and reclamation
  • Assist with the documentation of exploration field observations, including photographing of core and soil samples
  • Observe and assist with environmental monitoring, including the collection of samples at ongoing monitoring locations
  • Sharing knowledge and information about traditional land use and subsistence living in the area, and other traditional knowledge of the area
  • Communicate information, learnings, and observations of activities with community members and IRA Councils with assistance from the Red Dog Community Liaisons 
  • Participate and complete trainings in various workplace tasks
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent 
  • Interest in learning about the mineral exploration and construction process
  • Ability to travel to Teck’s exploration site and commit to a rotation schedule (2 week on site, 2 weeks off site) from May to October
  • Interest and ability to communicate learnings and observations about the exploration season with Teck staff, community members and IRA Councils with assistance from the Red Dog Community Liaisons
